Des Moines Openings, Closings, and Such
- Closed/Closing
- Back in February, Ruby B’s Kitchen and Catering closed their Fleur location. They are still catering.
- Normally, I don’t cover bars, but Hull Avenue Tavern was ancient for a bar.
- Chain news
- The downtown Kum & Go is closing. That one’s solely a convenience store, no gas. Oh, Kum & Go. You will be missed.
- Chippy’s, a British food and gift shop with a location in Ankeny, is closing said location.
- Now Open
- Rok the Wok food truck is now rolling.
- Coming Soon
- Gossip Tea and Coffee in Waukee opens Friday, March 29th.
- Yet another Wasabis is opening. This will be in WDM next to the second location of Home Sweet Cone.
- Bubbies BBQ will open in Ankeny soon.
- I mentioned Zavy Kitchen last week. It is brought to us by the folks at Pho Real.
- Indianola’s Sauced Up is opening a second location, this time in Altoona.
- Bits and Bobs
- The incomparable Karla Walsh wrote about Palm’s Caribbean Cuisine, and it reminds me that I need to try them.

- Filet Steakhouse in Ankeny will start serving lunch on March 19th.
- In what has to be one of my bigger fails, I saw a place called Comida Corrida Mexicana somewhere, but now I have zero recollection of where, and I can’t find it in Google Maps. Did I imagine this?!
- Food trucks are gearing up for the season, so keep an eye out for your favorite mobile munchies and all the new ones out there!
- Chain news: Honestly, we’re gonna need these Daylight Saving Time deals considering most of us are already exhausted from reality in general.
