Des Moines Openings, Closings, and Such
- Now Open
- Gossip Tea’s Waukee location is now open.
- The Stuffed Olive is now open at their new location. It looks fun!
- What Dak Korean Fried Chicken opens today! I may break my rule of waiting three months to try a new place on this one.
- Moved
- Sprockets relocated to where Rico’s at Drake is. Problem is that Rico’s appears to still be open. Rico’s website is dead, and they haven’t updated their IG in a year, but they posted to FB last week. I have a lot of questions because both of these eateries are solid and underrated.
- Coming Soon
- Wilson’s Orchard opens on April 10th.
- Charlotte’s Kitchen seeks a third location, this one in Altoona. I think I forgot they had a second location.
- Amruth Indian Grill in Clive is opening soon.
- Chef David Baruthio’s (think Baru 66) new venture at least has a name now: Au Poivre Bistro. I’m a sucker for au poivre, so I’m already in.
- Per usual, I don’t usually cover bars, but HoQ is expanding their space to add HoQtail, which is a damn cute name.
- Bits and Bobs
- Might we finally be rid of St. Kilda in Des Moines proper?
- What the Fries food truck appears to have returned to a truck-only operation. That said, they’re back!
- Zaika Indian Restaurant is now open 24 hours. This is such an unusual thing for the metro, and I’m curious as hell. I can’t say I haven’t craved roti at 3 a.m., but I never expected that to be a reality. My question though: Why no chai?
- 2nd Ave. Sandwich food truck will be operating out of Moxie.
- The Greek Food Fair returns! The dates are Friday, May 31st through Sunday, June 2nd. Stay away from my loukoumades.
Joyful Things
- Gems, Guides, and Goodies is coming May 1st! Subscribe today!
- All the love to Bing’s for the extra sticker and pin!
WTF, Des Moines?
- La Cabaña is absolutely not here for this dude’s nonsense.
- Is this Pura’s fault? From what I’ve heard, the management at Lyon Apartments wanted Pura gone for other reasons long before this happened.
- We all saw this coming, right? I mean, right?
- We’ve been to Simon’s once. Neither of us liked it. Every time we pass it and see the line of people waiting to get in, we’re baffled. This only solidifies our confusion. (Scroll about 3/4 down.) I mean no ill-will toward Simon’s. I just don’t get it.
- Happy Easter to those who celebrate! As I don’t, I have no Easter-related content.
